Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension, remain a major global and national health problem due to their high prevalence and asymptomatic nature in early stages. Hypertension is closely associated with modifiable lifestyle factors, including high salt intake, unhealthy dietary patterns, and low consumption of fruits and vegetables. Early detection through the Integrated Development Post for NCDs (Posbindu PTM) is an important strategy to prevent complications and improve community health outcomes. This study aimed to examine the relationship between Health Belief Model (HBM) components and early hypertension detection behavior among community members in Pesawaran Regency in 2026. A quantitative cross-sectional design was applied involving 395 respondents selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using a validated HBM-based questionnaire and analyzed using univariate, chi-square, and logistic regression tests. The results showed that 57.2% of respondents had good early detection behavior. All HBM components were significantly associated with early detection behavior (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that cues to action was the most dominant factor (OR = 3.175), indicating that respondents with strong cues to action were more than three times likely to perform early hypertension detection. In conclusion, all HBM components influence early hypertension detection behavior, with cues to action as the strongest predictor. Strengthening health promotion, including nutrition education such as reducing salt intake and improving dietary patterns, along with enhancing the role of health cadres and reminder systems, is essential to increase community participation in routine hypertension screening.
